Mathematics Coaching

About
Picture_15.JPG

I provide coaching for anyone, child or adult, parent, student, teacher, or tutor, who wants to deepen their understanding of and appreciation for mathematics (or any intimately related subject such as statistics or physics) and share this understanding and appreciation with others. I am familiar with all areas of mathematics at the high school level and with many at the collegiate and graduate levels.

I directly teach when asked to and when necessary, but my primary goals are to facilitate learning or to guide and challenge clients. As a proponent of self-directed education I let the client, as much as is feasible, set the agenda for my coaching.

My private coaching is tailored for each client depending on their interests, needs, and goals. I work differently with an artist, say, compared to a student who has a serious interest in mathematics proper.

Homeschooling and Homeschooling Coops

For parents, teachers, and other participants of homeschooling and homeschooling coops (students or children), I offer long-term private coaching and, for the coops themselves, day classes. The day classes are centered around different themes, say symmetry or the Golden Ratio, and usually involve games, stories, and activities such as solving mysteries involving mathematical clues. Like my coaching, these are tailored to the needs and interests of the coop.

Help for Getting Through Standardized Tests

While I strongly oppose standardized testing, I will provide coaching for anyone working to get through one. I have extensive experience coaching students through the SAT, ACT, TSI, and ISEE.

Costs and Contact

I offer monthly packages where the effective hourly rate for individual sessions (usually under $50/hour) is lower than my regular hourly rate ($59/hour).

For an initial, free consultation and more information, including more specifics about prices, please contact me directly at 214-395-3983 (a text message or phone call will be fine) or at meyersv1@yahoo.com. I’ll get back to you within a day or two.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What subjects do you offering coaching for?

My clients range from students in middle school through graduate school and into many professional settings. I am comfortable with a wide variety of clients and many areas of mathematics as well as classical physics, classical and Bayesian statistics, and actuarial science.

I also work with people preparing for standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, ISEE, LSAT, or TSI.

Where do we meet for coaching?

I hold sessions virtually by Zoom/Google Meets/phone or in person at Anthem at Ledgestone (located at 383 Rocky Ridge Trail in the Belterra neighborhood).

What is the cost of your services?

Private tutoring for advanced subjects and standardized tests and hourly coaching over extended periods of time can run into the thousands of dollars per month. With my monthly packages, the regular price is well under one thousand, usually between $200 to $500 a month, depending on how many hours is included.

I also offer a risk-free guarantee: if after one month, it’s not working as you like, something has gone wrong, or you’re just not feeling right, you can let me know and I’ll provide a full refund.

WHAT HAPPY PARENTS AND STUDENTS SAY

Glen is extremely knowledgeable and is expertly prepared to explain how to derive the answers and what the mathematical principals are behind them. While I'm still a novice sailor in the sea of mathematics and statistics, Glen's help has provided a much appreciated and valued life raft to me. I cannot recommend his abilities enough.
